SCHOOL READING PROGRAM BRIDGE (Basic Reading Intervention on the Deficiencies and Gaps in English)
Reading is the active process of understanding print and graphic texts. It is a thinking process. Students are asked to read progressively more informational complex texts as they advance through school. Their ability to understand and use this information is the key to their success in learning. However, there are pupils whose reading level are not at par with their age and grade level. The program addresses concerns relative to reading and aims to help the learners improve their word reading, reading accuracy, reading speed, and reading comprehension.
This school year, the school modified its program to tailor the needs of the pupils in this new normal. It adapted the SOaR (Stay Online and Read) program wherein the teachers do their reading activities and remediation online. Both teachers and pupils enjoyed reading since the program provided interactive activities. Depending on the needs of each pupil, the teachers arranged schedules for group and individual reading sessions with their pupils. There were also sessions with the parents to guide them in helping their children learn and practice reading at home with a provision of sample reading selections.
SOaR gave the school’s reading program a new facet wherein the pupils made significantly positive progress while developing a positive attitude and life-long interest in reading.
